Another Commission...Another Happy Collector!

1/13/2025

Last July, I received an email from a collector, Elizabeth N, expressing that she wanted to discuss commissioning a large painting for their home in Austin. The inquiry turned into weeks of back and forth email discussions until we finally settled on what would work. By early November, "Celebrating Spring" was ready to pick up and went up on the wall in time for holiday visitors.

In order to get to that point, I first asked Elizabeth to send me some photos of the wall and room where she wanted to place the painting, along with measurements so I could have a good sense of scale and we discussed possible sizes that would fit the space. Next I asked her to look through my website of both available paintings and the archive page and make a list to give me an idea of what spoke to her. I then began working on mock ups with different paintings. Through that process, we decided that a canvas 36 inches tall and 60 inches wide would fit the space best and that something with a light blue sky, based on a specific painting she saw in my archives, would brighten the area and bring her joy. While I always tell clients that I can't reproduce a painting, it does help to have something to shoot for in terms of size, colors, composition and overall look.

By early October, I completed commission and just needed her to see it in person to confirm that it made her happy. She brought her husband and daughter along for their feedback and "Celebrating Spring" was approved and ready to varnish. While they were in the studio, Mr. N. fell in love with another painting from a several years back that had yet to find its forever home. Measuring 48x48 with a white background and large abstracted flowers, "Spring Fresh" went home with them that same day.

Once the commissioned painting was varnished and cured enough to transport, they came back, paid for the painting and took it home.

I'm writing this, in part, to give anyone interested an overall view of how the commission process works. I will do what I can, within reason of course, to create something that speaks to you. I do not require any down payment nor full payment until the commission is completed and you are completely satisfied. Happiness Guaranteed!

A little side note. When they returned to pick up the commission, Mary, their daughter also found a painting that spoke to her, "Summer Meadow," and it now has a new home!

Time for the big reveal...
